What is it like to build you career with FourPhase, Even Solsvik?

After completing his apprenticeship as a coil tubing operator at Baker Hughes in 2014, Even found himself in one of the biggest downturns in the history of the oil industry—not the best time to be a job seeker. Fortunately for Even, a few months later, he received a call from his former Baker Hughes colleague, Jørgen Bruntveit, who wanted him to join the offshore team in a new company he had helped establish.

The company was called FourPhase, and it was founded on the idea of sand cyclones—equipment that processes well streams (which contain oil, gas, water, and sand) through a cyclone to separate sand particles from the oil. This reduces wear and tear on the processing facilities on the platform.

Even thought this was a great idea and immediately accepted the job offer. He started in 2015 as an offshore operator and was quickly promoted to supervisor, where he gained leadership experience and acted as an extension of the onshore project manager. In the spring of 2020, he took over as an onshore project manager.

Now, he values being the one who plans the major projects that he was once a part of as a rig worker. His previous hands-on experience on platforms is a great advantage in his current role as a project manager, both internally and externally. Communication with offshore staff is incredibly effective, and his offshore experience also strengthens his communication with customers.

A few quotes from Even

"As a project manager, I have had the opportunity to travel extensively and take part in major offshore projects. It has been particularly exciting to experience cultural differences in the way people work."

"What I like most about working for FourPhase is the team spirit and the variety of tasks. Since we are a relatively small company, different departments work closely together. I collaborate closely with product development and design, the workshop, finance, and HR. So, if you want to be more involved in product development, for example, the opportunities are there. You can expose yourself to as many aspects of the company as you want and gain a wealth of experience if you’re willing."

"Going from a large company to FourPhase felt very much like transitioning from being just a number to becoming a vital team player, where the rest of the office actively sought my input on a daily basis. Here, you are definitely part of a team."
