Ensuring secure return handling with minimal footprint during a pre P&A operation in the North Sea
Norwegian North Sea, 2025
FP-1251
Challenge
Aker BP executed a multirun coiled tubing and wireline intervention on a well in the North Sea. FourPhase was engaged to manage returns throughout the intervention, protecting topside equipment on a highly space constrained platform. The goal was automated handling of returns with minimal disruption to concurrent activities.

Solution
FourPhase deployed its return package including DualFlow cyclonic separation, a remotely operated choke and Multiphase flowmeter (MPFM), to capture solids and measure them in real time during Coiled Tubing (CT) and Wireline (WL) operations. FourPhase supported rig-up, operation, and rig-down phases without impacting parallel scopes, aligning with the customer intervention program requirements. Operational highlights included:
• Returns handling to prevent solids ingress to separators
• Optimisation of choke settings during CT cleanout runs
• Continuous separation across DualFlow vessels, enabling flushing without process interruption

Results
• Separation performance: “Separation efficiency was good; no reports of solids passing the FP equipment.”
• Operational reliability: “No ESG&Q incidents or downtime caused by FourPhase equipment or personnel.”
• Compliance & decontamination: Post-job Mercury and NORM inspections confirmed acceptable readings after washing of DualFlow, choke frame and flowmeter assemblies from the operation.
